About Department for Education

The Department for Education is a UK Government department responsible for education, children’s services, apprenticeships, skills, schools, colleges and wider education policy across England.

The department supports national digital services used by schools, local authorities, education providers, government teams and the public. These services require strong governance, security, resilience, scalability and controlled change to support critical public-sector delivery.

From a technology perspective, the Department for Education operates large and complex cloud and infrastructure environments, including Azure platforms, multiple subscriptions, identity services, networking, databases, remote access, backup and disaster recovery.

In my role as Lead Azure DevOps Engineer, I supported one of the largest Azure subscriptions in UK Government, with an annual running cost of approximately £14 million. I led and mentored a team of engineers, supported Agile delivery practices, and helped deliver major cloud and infrastructure transformation work.
