Key Achievements

The Intellectual Property Office is a UK Government organisation responsible for intellectual property rights, including patents, trade marks, designs and copyright.
The organisation supports businesses, inventors, creators and legal professionals by helping protect innovation, brand identity and creative work across the UK. Its services are important to legal registration, commercial protection, digital casework, public records and the wider UK innovation economy.
From a technology perspective, the Intellectual Property Office operates critical public-sector systems that require strong availability, data protection, disaster recovery, backup, resilience and secure infrastructure operations.
In my role as Disaster Recovery Engineer, I acted as technical lead for backup, disaster recovery and business continuity improvement. This included reviewing existing recovery capability, identifying gaps and risks, presenting a business case to the Technical Design Authority, and implementing improved backup and recovery services.
A key deliverable was implementing System Center Data Protection Manager with Azure Recovery Vault, helping move the organisation toward a more cloud-first recovery approach and improving off-site protection for critical data.
